This is the first of a series of videos and written posts I’ll be making as Dr. Dog and I take apart and rebuild our recording studio. You know, for the kids.

  • Hey Bill, If you’re looking for a 32 channel TOFT ATB mixer, my bassist has one for sale. We used it to mix our record, “Tread Softly”. If you’re interested in looking over it or listening to it, let me know and we can schedule a time for you to drop by our Lancaster, PA studio/rehearsal space.

  • i noticed that scott and toby both play an epiphone sheraton ii. how does that perform in studio? i’m thinkin about buyin one, but i was wondering how well it records as opposed to the live sound.
    thanks
(can’t wait for dr.dog’s next album: i really got into “we all belong” and “fate” – great records [and production])

I look forward to more of these Bill. thanks.

  • Your work and Dr. Dog’s records have been great inspirations for me – and so finding out you’re doing this, so openly and generously, is, well, just awesome.

They work really well. I noticed lately the band borrowed some Gibsons and liked them better than the Epiphones. Guitar recording has always been a struggle for us over here, but overall I would say the Epiphone semi-hollow guitars sound very nice.

  • A friend of mine told me about this website. I am eager and excited to follow your progress. Thank you!

Hey Bill, I’m a big fan of your work! Are you going to be working from another studio/room while the renovations are made? Im currently working with Chris on scheduling time now. Thanks.

I appreciate you letting us get a closer look at your recording process with such a great band. I have always loved the sounds on Dr. Dog records.

looking forward to more of these. excellent concept.
was that grimace federation with the duel drums in there?

  • Hi Bill,
First of all thank you so much, I really love your advices.
Could you explain a little bit the way you record a bass guitar? I like a lot the vintage/LO-FI sound of Dr.Dog bass lines , but I don’t Know how can I get this sound. I use to play my P-Bass with flats through my orange 2×15 cainte; but I don’t know wich Microphone is better to do the recording. I got a EV-R20, a Sennheiser 421, and an avalon U5 DI, so I get a mix of the D with one of the mics.

  • Hey man, when’s the next blog post coming?
